new England revolution x CHICAgo fire

In a 2-2 tie against the Supporters' Shield-leading New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium this previous Saturday night, Ignacio Aliseda scored in the 88th minute, and Chicago Fire FC began playing spoiler while dropping out of postseason contention. Two minutes after Wilfrid Kaptoum started the scoring with his first MLS goal, Alvaro Medran scored his third goal for the Fire, who needed a win to be mathematically alive for the 2021 MLS Playoffs.

Aliseda's goal came 12 minutes after Gustavo Bou gave New England their second lead of the game as they maintained their quest for the most points in Major League Soccer history. Carles Gil's MLS-leading 17th assist set up Bou's team-leading 14th goal for the Revs, who are currently six points behind LAFC in 2019 with four games remaining.

Bou gained revenge on the 17-year-old Homegrown as he sprinted onto Gil's inch-perfect through-ball and fired a half-volley arching over Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. A minute later, Aliseda tied the score as Chicago kept New England from extending their Shield advantage. The Revs started the night eight points ahead of Seattle, who had a game in hand to begin MLS Week 30. The Revs narrowly defeated the Fire, collecting five points out of a possible nine and outscoring their opponents 7-6.
