New York City FC are on their way to their first-ever MLS Cup on Saturday after defeating the Philadelphia Union 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Final at Subaru Park, thanks to Talles Magno's goal two minutes from the end. Thanks to a pair of second-half replacements connecting, NYCFC will meet the Portland Timbers in MLS Cup 2021. Gudi Thórarinsson grabbed the ball from a flat-footed Olivier Mbaizo and slipped a pass to Talles Magno, who tapped it in from close range.

The Union, who were without 11 players, including six expected starters, due to MLS Health and Safety Protocols, broke the 0-0 tie in the 63rd minute when NYCFC defender Alex Callens scored an own goal. Daniel Gazdag hit a fantastic pass at Kacper Przybylko, but it bounced off a diving Callens for an own goal, eliciting thunderous acclaim from Subaru Park. However, the hosts' lead was short-lived, as Maxi Moralez equalized for the fourth-seeded Cityzens in the 65th minute.

New York City FC center back Maxime Chanot took advantage of the open space and fired a swerving shot on goal, which goalkeeper Matt Freese parried. Moralez tied the game after a deflected ball fell at his feet on the edge of the six-yard box. NYCFC had a chance to take the lead in the 76th minute, but Freese saved the day by diving to his right to intercept Callens' deflected header. In the 86th minute, Nathan Harriel came within inches of scoring a late winner, but his header hit the top of the net. Talles Magno, on the other hand, produced the heroics and made history for the New York City FC.
