Philadelphia union x Columbus crew

On Saturday night at Subaru Park, the Philadelphia Union took advantage of an early blunder by Columbus Crew goalie Eloy Room to score the game's only goal. Two minutes in, Room fumbled Jose Andres Martinez's early cross across his line, resulting in an own goal. Instead of sailing wide of the far post for a goal kick, his attempt to catch the service actually diverted it goalward. That was all the Union needed to preserve their lead in the Eastern Conference rankings with their fifth straight win and fourth straight clean sheet. In the win, Andre Blake made three saves. Just before halftime, he made a leaping denial of Lucas Zelarayan's free-kick.

Room made up for his early error in defeat with a total of five saves and three one-on-one denials, but the Crew were still defeated 1-0 for the second time in a row. He denied Daniel Gazdag twice from close range to end the Hungarian's four-game goal drought. If Blake had suffered a game-ending injury, Philly's victory could have been bittersweet. That appeared to be a possibility after his save of Zelarayan and the subsequent collision, which knocked him out for several minutes. But he fought through any discomfort to make it to halftime, and in the second 45 minutes, he appeared to be fine.
