LA Galaxy x Seattle Sounders

After Friday night's 3-3 draw at Dignity Health Sports Park, it would have been the fairest outcome for Seattle Sounders FC. Despite their best efforts, they trailed the LA Galaxy 2-0 at halftime. The score was stretched by a goal scored by Victor Vazquez that appeared out of nowhere and sailed over Stefan Frei's head.

It speaks everything about the character of the Sounders that they still don't know when they're beaten after everything they've been through this season. Kelyn Rowe capped off a beautiful team play to cut the deficit to 2-1. Minutes later, sensing some tired legs, Albert Rusnak drove forward, slamming two attempts off the woodwork in a frenetic sequence that culminated with Raul Ruidiaz smashing Nico Lodeiro's cross past Jonathan Bond to tie the game.

Referee Victor Rivas pointed to the spot after a video review showed that Nick DePuy's header had hit Xavier Arreaga's hand in the Sounders' penalty area in the 88th minute. Arreaga had little opportunity of avoiding the midair collision. In stoppage time, substitute Dejan Joveljic scored to spare the Galaxy's blushes and steal a draw from the visitors.

Both of these playoff-seeking squads should be disappointed with the outcome. It hurts Seattle even more since they were minutes away from a stunning road victory.
