Toronto FC x FC Cincinnati

Toronto FC and FC Cincinnati played out a tense and emotionally charged 1–1 draw at BMO Field, a match that took a while to open up but ended with a frantic late swing that changed everything in the final minutes. The first half was fairly tight, with both teams feeling each other out and neither able to fully establish control in the final third.

Cincinnati looked slightly more composed early on, moving the ball with purpose and trying to test Toronto’s back line with direct runs and quick combinations. Toronto, meanwhile, stayed organized and compact, focusing on limiting space rather than chasing the game too early.

Chances were limited in the opening period, but Cincinnati did manage to create a couple of dangerous moments from wide areas and set pieces. Toronto’s defense held firm though, and the match went into halftime scoreless with everything still to play for.

The second half started with a bit more urgency, especially from Cincinnati, who began to push higher up the field and play with more aggression in possession. That pressure eventually paid off when Kévin Denkey finished off a well-worked attacking move to give Cincinnati a 1–0 lead.

After the opening goal, Cincinnati settled into a more controlled rhythm. They were comfortable sitting deeper, slowing the tempo, and forcing Toronto to break them down. For a while, it looked like they might manage the match professionally and take all three points.

Toronto responded by throwing more numbers forward and increasing the tempo in attack. They started getting into better positions around the box, but the final pass or shot just wasn’t sharp enough to fully test the Cincinnati goalkeeper.

The turning point came when Cincinnati were reduced to ten men after a second yellow card changed the balance of the match. That moment shifted everything, and Toronto immediately began to pin them back with sustained pressure.

The equalizer arrived in the 83rd minute in chaotic fashion when pressure inside the box led to an own goal by Gilberto Flores, bringing Toronto level and sending the stadium into a surge of belief. From there, the match completely opened up.

In the final minutes, Toronto pushed hard for a winner, controlling possession and keeping Cincinnati pinned deep in their own half. Cincinnati, despite being a man down, still looked dangerous on the counter and nearly stole it themselves on one break.

When the final whistle blew, the 1–1 result felt like a mix of frustration and relief on both sides. Toronto will feel they should have fully capitalized on the red card and turned the game into a win, while Cincinnati will feel they let a strong away performance slip late after leading for most of the second half.
