The Portland Thorns FC defeated the OL Reign, 2-0. The Reign had opportunities of their own, but they were unable to score and ended up losing the match. In the third and fifth minutes of the match, the Reign took shot after shot, although none really threatened Portland's goal. The Thorns started the game with more possession, but the Reign quickly formed a strong press that kept the match deadlocked.

Portland scored the game's first goal in the seventeenth minute. Sophia Smith received the ball and dribbled to the top of the box before firing a low shot that went in. The Reign spent the rest of the second half desperately trying to get a goal to tie the game.

At around the halfway point, the momentum was swinging in OL Reign's favor. Reign forward Elyse Bennett almost scored the game's first goal for the Reign, but her attempt was just off target. Two more shots were taken by the Reign before halftime, but they remained a goal down heading into the half.

After the break, OL Reign kept working to tie the game by passing the ball around the field in the Thorn’s end. In the 56th minute, Megan Rapinoe had a good look from within the box, but Portland's goalkeeper made a diving stop to keep the score level. Five minutes later, Reign forward Jordyn Huitema did well to get on the end of a cross and create a scoring opportunity, but her header sailed just wide.

With time running out, Portland scored again. In the 87th minute, Christine Sinclair was waiting at the top of the box and one-touched the ball into the goal to break the Reign’s momentum. Five minutes into extra time, the Reign kept pressing and almost equalized when forward Tziarra King nearly scored off a Rapinoe cross. King's attempt, however, was saved. The final score between the Reign and the Thorns was 2-0.
