Portland Timbers x FC Dallas

The Portland Timbers defeated FC Dallas 1-0 on Sunday night at Providence Park in their 17th match of the 2023 season. This victory marked the midpoint of the 2023 campaign. While Portland continues to be a force to be reckoned with, time will tell if that form continues to hold. Franck Boli scored the game-winning goal in the first half to give the Timbers their fifth win of the season, while David Bingham recorded his second consecutive shutout.

Franck Boli scored a header in the 35th minute to give the Timbers a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match, per Giovanni Savarese's decision to introduce the Ivorian striker. The Timbers ended the match with 14 attempts, eight of which were on target, and should have scored more than just Boli's strike. However, for the second consecutive week, Portland limited their opponents to just five attempts, thwarting an FC Dallas attack that has given them problems in recent seasons.

On this night, however, Ferreira and the rest of Dallas' front line were held scoreless, and Portland earned its second consecutive clean sheet in the 1-0 victory.
