Portland Thorns x OL Reign

Megan Rapinoe of the OL Reign scored her first regular-season goal in over 3 years on Sunday, as her team defeated the Portland Thorns 2-1 in the Cascadia rivalry. When Rapinoe beautifully converted a free kick, she seized the opportunity to have a little fun with the Portland fans at Providence Park.

"Obviously the Thorns fans need no introduction -- they're incredible," Rapinoe said after the game. "They have one big problem, though. It's that they love me, so it's really difficult for them to cheer against me. So when I scored, I had to go right over and talk my shit. I was trying to talk shit and they just did not know what to do. And then finally somebody gave me a big, double f--k you middle fingers up and I was like 'That's what I'm talking about! That's the kind of rivalry that we want!'"

The Thorns are notorious for having some of the most enthusiastic supporters in the NWSL, but Rapinoe and the Reign were determined to dominate the Cascadia Derby, giving the Reign their first win of the 2021 regular season.

Farid Benstiti's team isn’t planning to stop here. After this 2-1 triumph over the Portland Thorns the Reign will switch focus to playing the Washington Spirit at Cheney Stadium next Sunday.
