Racing Louisville x portland thorns

Portland Thorns FC defeated Racing Louisville FC 2-0 in Kentucky in a back-and-forth match for the majority of the game. Rocky Rodriguez scored a penalty kick goal for Portland. Several new players were inserted into the starting lineup for the Thorns as a result of a number of players getting called up for international action allowing a few different players to earn more playing time than normal.

The Thorns would take the field roughly 30 minutes into the game. Rocky Rodriguez was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the midfielder. Rodriguez took a stride forward and fired the ball past Michelle Betos, who misjudged the direction of the shot. The Thorns lead 1-0 after Rodriguez's goal.

Menges would later put a ball into the area for the Thorns in the 52nd minute. Simone Charley, who had been working tirelessly throughout the match, rose to her feet and hammered a picture-perfect header into the back of the net for Portland. Menges' first assist in the NWSL for the 2-0 lead.

For the majority of the first half, the game was played in a back-and-forth fashion. Weaver continued to be a force in the Portland offense, while Matthews did the same for Louisville. In the end, Portland was able to keep Louisville from tying the game or getting a goal to keep the game tight, resulting in a 2-0 victory.
