Seattle Sounders x Atlanta United

In a 1-1 draw at Lumen Field, two of the league's best teams traded goals in the first half as Raul Ruidiaz found the net early for Seattle and Josef Martinez equalized for the visitors off a late PK. Even a casual fan was able to walk away satisfied from this drama.

Ruidiaz gave the undefeated Sounders the lead in the sixth minute with his sixth goal of the year. The Peruvian headed the ball past Brad Guzan with ease after connecting with Joao Paulo's out-swinging corner kick. The 38th minute saw Nouhou make a tremendous defensive play to deny what surely would have been another Martinez goal, intercepting Brooks Lennon's pass with a diving stab. The Cameroonian played a strong defensive game for such a young defender in Seattle's backline. The future continues to shine bright for this Seattle squad.

After halftime, Atlanta pressed to equalize, with Martinez taking a powerful shot from 28 yards out in the 67th minute, but it went well over the top of the crossbar keeping Seattle safe for the time being as the nerves began to rattle for the Seattle supporters. It wouldn't be long until the King of Atlanta would bury his second goal of the season, scoring from the penalty spot after Brad Smith tripped him just before full-time. It's been a long road back for Martinez and we have to admire his tenacity in coming back from this season-ending injury last season.

As Seattle continues its unbeaten season and is off to their best start in club history, it will surely be a disappointment to reflect on the dropped three points from this sloppy second half. As a reward for Atlanta's second-half prodding, Josef walks away with another unstoppable penalty kick courtesy of his pinpoint professionalism from the spot. This victory also counted towards Atlanta's second straight late goal that assisted in helping them steal points. It's been a rags to riches first part of the season for Atlanta as they have climbed out of the cellar in the standings to third overall in the East.
