Goals from Cristian Roldan, Héber, and a pair from Jordan Morris helped the Seattle Sounders to a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on the opening day of the 2023 Major League Soccer season at Lumen Field.

In the season's 25th minute, Seattle scored its first goal thanks to another combination of Morris and Cristian Roldan. Morris found Roldan at the far post on the opposite side from where they had started, and after Roldan's initial header was stopped by William Yarbrough, he buried the rebound.

Later, right before halftime, Morris extended the Sounders' advantage by diving to head in a stray ball in the area after skipper Nicolás Lodeiro's pass was blocked.

Newbie Héber, playing in place of the injured Ral Ruidaz, got his first goal in Rave Green in the 53rd minute on a close-range header off a diverted pass from Lodeiro.

Stefan Frei, the Sounders' goalie, had a subdued night overall but came up big with two stops in the second half. At the 66-minute mark, Frei turned away Yapi on a 1-on-1, and then three minutes later, he stopped Michael Barrios in a similar manner to keep his 92nd career clean sheet intact.

In the 83rd minute, Morris finished off his hat trick by heading in a ricochet off the post of a Sounders corner.
