Portland Timbers x Seattle Sounders

In a classic Cascadia clash that lived up to the hype, the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC went toe to toe at a raucous Providence Park on May 17, 2025, trading first half haymakers in a 1–1 draw that felt like anything but tame.

The fireworks began in the 30th minute when Seattle’s Albert Rusnák broke through the Timbers’ back line with ice cold precision. Set up by Danny Musovski, Rusnák buried a low shot into the corner, his sixth of the season, and silenced the Rose City faithful… but only briefly.

Because just six minutes later, Portland struck back in style. David Da Costa sparked the play with a silky give and go, then picked out Santiago Moreno with a perfect cutback across the box. Moreno made no mistake, slamming it home first time for his fourth of the year and his 20th all time in green and gold.

From there, the battle turned into a gritty, end to end slugfest. Hard tackles, near misses, and fierce fan energy kept the tempo high, but neither side could break the deadlock in the second half.

With the draw, the Timbers extended their unbeaten run at home to six and held firm in the Western Conference's top tier. Bonus stat? Portland now boasts four players with four or more goals this season, the only club in MLS with that kind of attacking depth.

Cascadia bragging rights will have to wait… but this one? It felt like a playoff preview.
