Seattle Sounders x Minnesota United FC
History was made under the lights at Lumen Field on June 1, 2025, as Minnesota United FC finally broke their Seattle curse with a wild 3 to 2 win over the Sounders. After ten long years and a string of road heartbreaks, the Loons stormed into Seattle and left with all three points in a match packed with drama and momentum swings.
The first half was cagey, but Minnesota burst out of the gates after the break. Tani Oluwaseyi lit the spark in the 51st minute, coolly finishing a cross from Robin Lod to put the visitors in front. Moments later, Lod turned scorer himself, punishing a sloppy Seattle defense with a calm finish. Just when the Sounders thought they had time to regroup, Oluwaseyi struck again in the 58th minute, making it three goals in seven stunning minutes and sending the away fans into celebration mode.
Seattle refused to go quietly. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi pulled one back with a composed finish, and a late own goal from Minnesota’s Nicolás Romero made things tense in the final stretch. But the Loons held firm, surviving the pressure and walking away with their first-ever win in Seattle’s fortress.
This victory pushed Minnesota to 30 points and solidified their spot near the top of the Western Conference. For Seattle, the loss not only marked their first home defeat of the season but came amidst internal turmoil over FIFA Club World Cup bonus disputes, casting a cloud over the club’s form heading into a crucial stretch.
