In a dramatic showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on May 28, 2025, Atlanta United staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Orlando City 3 to 2, handing the Lions their first loss in 13 matches and reigniting Atlanta's season.
The match began with Orlando taking an early lead, but Atlanta responded with determination. Midfielder Alexey Miranchuk was instrumental, contributing a goal and two assists, marking the first time since March 2024 that an Atlanta player had at least three goal contributions in a single match .
As the game progressed, tensions escalated. Orlando's César Araújo received a red card, and head coach Oscar Pareja was also ejected, leaving the Lions vulnerable. Atlanta capitalized on this advantage. In the final minutes, Bartosz Slisz curled a stunning shot past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to equalize, and shortly after, Jamal Thiaré netted the winner, completing the comeback .
Veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan praised the team's resilience, stating, "Tonight was about character. It was about belief. It was about resilience" .
Atlanta's victory not only ended Orlando's unbeaten streak but also marked just the second time in club history that the Five Stripes have come back to win a match when trailing at the 75th minute.
