D.C. United scored two late goals to earn a 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday, overcoming a 2-0 lead in a five-minute stretch to rescue a point in the Eastern Conference clash at Soldier Field. After a Gaston Gimenez goal and a second-half own goal, Chicago was in the perfect position to grab all three points in the game's final minutes. However, Kevin Paredes of D.C. scored the first goal for the visitors in the 82nd minute, before Ola Kamara's penalty kick finish gave Hernan Losada's team a point.

Within the first ten minutes, D.C. had two huge chances, but Fire goalie Bobby Shuttleworth denied them both. The first occurred in the seventh minute when Nigel Robertha slipped behind the Chicago defense and had a clear chance on goal, but his laser blast was saved. The Fire punished the visitors for their squandered opportunities, scoring the game's opening goal in the 32nd minute on Gimenez's first MLS goal. The Paraguay international headed a Boris Sekulic cross past diving D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid at the far post with a snap header.

On 61 minutes, Chicago doubled their advantage thanks to an own goal by D.C.'s Andy Najar. The chance was created by a well-executed counterattack that culminated in Miguel Navarro's attempted cross from the left side deflecting off Najar and sneaking past Hamid and into the net.

The Fire appeared to be on their way to a large three-point win, but Paredes started the recovery in the 82nd minute, bringing one back for D.C. with a first-time shot that bounced off the post and into the goal, giving the visitors a lifeline. Najar subsequently made up for his own goal by winning a penalty kick after pulling a foul on Jonathan Bornstein, allowing Kamara to equalize from the spot.
