ol reign x washington spirit

In their final home encounter of the regular season, the OL Reign suffered their first loss since August against the Washington Spirit. The Reign are now in second position heading into their last game of the season, still battling for a top-two finish. The OL Reign came out of the gate eager for a goal. Megan Rapinoe got the game's opening chance just 47 seconds in, but her shot went wide of the goal. The tide began to turn in Washington's favor. In the 22nd minute, the visitors scored with their sixth shot, which came after five failed attempts. Taylor Aylmer volleyed a ball into the top left corner of the goal after receiving it from Julia Roddar in the box.

OL Reign made two substitutions at halftime, moving Quinn and Dzsenifer Marozsán into the midfield. At the outset of the first half, things were looking up for the Reign. The squad was putting more pressure on Washington, and starting in the 52nd minute, they had three chances in five minutes. Kristen McNabb, Jess Fishlock, and Rapinoe all attempted shots, but none of them were successful. Ashley Hatch increased Washington's advantage in the 59th minute. Hatch dribbled the ball for a few yards before hitting the lower right corner of the goal with a shot from outside the 18-yard box. The Reign needed to find some urgency to start a comeback after falling behind by two goals.

The Reign enjoyed 69% possession and four more shots on goal, but they were unable to score and suffered their first defeat since August.
