Real Salt Lake claimed the Rocky Mountain Cup with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night. Damir Kreilach scored a goal and two assists. With a win or a tie, the Rapids might have clinched a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs this year. RSL, on the other hand, ensured that the Rapids may have to wait at least a few more days to do so, while also making their position above the Western Conference playoff line a bit less precarious.

Kreilach scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute, latching onto Aaron Herrera's cross at the back post after Andrew Brody missed a front-post header. It was Kreilach's 14th goal of the season, and he set a new club record by scoring in his fifth straight league encounter. Herrera now has ten assists on the season. Rubio Rubin increased RSL's lead just before the Rapids sent on offensive reinforcements Younes Namli and Michael Barrios. After a poor clearing, Colorado was punished as Kreilach pounced on the ball and slid an inch-perfect pass to Rubin in the box. Rubin took care of the rest, tapping in his eighth goal of the season past William Yarbrough.

After Barrios and Jonathan Lewis hit the post, Namli scored a 73rd-minute goal on a shot that bounced off Kreilach's chest and past a helpless David Ochoa following a Colorado corner kick. In a frantic, wide-open finish that saw Anderson Julio have a stoppage-time attempt saved off the line by Lucas Esteves, Colorado threatened for more late drama. Both sides made two changes in the 88th minute.

Julio, on the other hand, had the final laugh, nutmegging Yarbrough late in the game to gain three huge points and the Rocky Mountain Cup.
