COLORADO RAPIDS x AUSTIN FC

Don’t let the pictures fool you, this match took place in Colorado. However, you’d be forgiven if you thought otherwise. Austin FC’s fans were out in full force to support their squad as they would claim their first three points in club history. It’s not every day that you get to celebrate a team’s first goal and win all in the same match. That’s why this one in Colorado will long be remembered by the Austin FC faithful. The match would kick off with some early chances for Austin and Colorado respectively. In the 35th minute Colorado would strike first. Off of a corner Shinyashiki would power home a header for the home team. This lead wouldn’t last forever as a deflected cross would put Diego Fagundez into the history books forever when he slotted a ball right into the sweet spot to score for Austin FC. Even if the first goal would be off a lucky deflection Austin would make their goal scoring ability much more clear with a beautiful curler by Dominguez in the 67th minute. This wasn’t the end for Dominguez though, he would finish the third and final goal for Austin in the 71st minute with a deflected shot on goal that would ultimately secure the first three points in the club’s early history. After this showing from Austin the hype continues to build around their future home opener with over 30,000 season tickets sold. In the wise words of their Minister of Culture, it’s easy to believe that Austin will be doing alright, alright, alright this season. Only time will tell but that’s why we love this unpredictable game where any given Saturday a group of eleven people can write themselves into sport lure forever.
