SPOrting Kansas City x Orlando City SC

Talk about a game of interesting goals. Sporting Kansas City would return to the Blue Hell this past weekend looking to capitalize against visiting Orlando City SC who previously tied their opening match against Atlanta United. Sporting has long held home field advantage when playing at Children’s Mercy Park and with fans in attendance this was no different today. Sporting would take an early apparent lead in the match, however, the goal would be ruled offside. This game wouldn’t stay tied for very much longer though. Just before halftime Orlando was caught flatfooted and while playing around with some passes in the back a miscued touch would give the ball directly to SKC’s Salloi. With a nice setup pass Gianluca Busio would screen the keeper just from the top of the box and capitalize on the mistake with a beautifully slotted shot into the bottom left corner of Orlando’s goal. This certainly wasn’t the end of the game’s strange goals. Orlando would find a revival in the second half and after a break into the box by Chris Mueller his deflected shot would fall right into the path of Nani who, with some quick reaction time would almost effortlessly back heel the ball directly into the net to equalize for Orlando. As the match drew to a close the action would continue to intensify, but would end ultimately in a draw and the points being split between these two clubs. {Shot by ICONIC photographer Trevor Hellman]
