Seattle Sounders x real Salt Lake

The Seattle Sounders beat Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Wednesday night at Lumen Field, extending their club-record unbeaten start to ten games. Raul Ruidiaz scored his eighth goal of the season in the 88th minute.

Ruidiaz's spot-kick, a calmly taken Panenka, canceled out Albert Rusnak's converted penalty 10 minutes earlier, giving Seattle its second consecutive win following the international break. Cristian Roldan had opened the scoring 20 minutes earlier, when he scored the game's only goal from open play, tapping away a rebound after David Ochoa had saved Will Bruin's original shot.

The Sounders maintained their lead for the next 20 minutes before RSL equalized (more on both penalties below), but they were unable to get an insurance goal. Ruidiaz came the closest, but his goal was disallowed after an attempt to top the infamous "hand of God" goal.

Despite both defense's passionate protests of Ted Unkel's ruling when he pointed to the location in their own end, both penalties were upheld after a Video Review. The first penalty was awarded when Unkel determined that Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland had collided with Rubio Rubin with his late challenge. After the ball bounced off Ruidiaz, substitute defender Anderson Julio was adjudged to have handled the ball.
