Angel city FC x san Diego wave

What a thrilling match that had Angel City win 2-1 in the first-ever SoCal rivalry match at Bank of America Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Ali Riley started it off by giving Angel City the first and only goal of the game when she scored. As she was running into the box, Jun Endo passed her the ball, which she just smashed in for the lead. San Diego kept looking for an equalizer, including Abby Dahlkemper, who took a free-kick that narrowly missed the inside of the net as it ricocheted off the post. The two teams however went into halftime with Angel City leading 1-0.

Sydney Leroux almost scored on a bicycle kick at the start of the second half, but it went far right of the goal. Kristen McNabb scored the equalizer in the 59th minute after Katlyn Johnson dribbled through the defense of Angel City to pass the ball.  San Diago had an amazing opportunity to take the lead when Turnbow made a shot from the right side of the pitch. It hit the inner post just before the goal line but did not go in. Even San Diego's head coach couldn't believe it didn't go in, but this is one of those plays that you need to see the replay to believe. Leroux continued to make her mark on this team by taking shots on goal, but her shot was deflected time and time again. Tyler Lussi would receive her second yellow card in the 79th minute when she went in for a slide tackle, but instead of getting the ball, she took out the player, resulting in her being ejected from the game. With a player down, Angel City still pushed ahead and eventually got another goal in the 81st minute by Claire Emslie to win all three points.
