Philadelphia Union x Sporting KC

The Union and Sporting Kansas City finally got the ball rolling after a 61-minute postponement due to bad weather. The Union welcomed back Andre Blake from illness, as well as Daniel Gazdag and Jose Martinez from foreign service.

Even though they had the ball for longer, Sporting still couldn't generate many scoring opportunities. A desperate shot from Zusi from the top of the box was lost in the tifo beams behind the Sons of Ben, and then more combination play on the perimeter led to a corner kick that KC opted to clear. The ensuing corner kick was nearly finished by Rosero, who floated it toward the post. Blake was in an ideal situation to safely save the attempt.

Philadelphia posed a danger before the clock hit the 80th minute. Carranza had the ball chested to him inside the box by McGlynn, who had found a sliver of space through the defenders, but the ball was pushed off his foot as he tried to finish.

In the 85th minute, Carranza almost stunned everyone watching when he seized on a stray ball in the area and scored with a bicycle kick that shook the far post and went out for a goal kick.

The contest finished scoreless, with Philadelphia finally ending their losing run but still coming up short.
