Seattle Reign FC x Kansas City Current
Under the Friday night lights at Lumen Field on May 2, 2025, Seattle Reign FC delivered a statement performance, toppling the first-place Kansas City Current with a gritty 1 to 0 win that had fans on their feet and the league taking notice.
The breakthrough moment came in the 37th minute when veteran forward Lynn Biyendolo smashed home her first goal in a Reign jersey and the 81st of her NWSL career. It was a clinical finish from a player who knows exactly where to be and when to strike. That goal would prove to be the game-winner and a perfect reflection of her impact and experience.
While the spotlight often shines on attacking flair, it was Seattle’s defense that stole the show in the second half. The backline was rock solid, shutting down one of the most dangerous offenses in the league. Kansas City was held to a season-low 0.7 expected goals and failed to find the net for the first time since September 2023.
With this gutsy victory, Reign FC improved to three wins, two draws and two losses on the season, climbing to fifth in the NWSL standings. It was a defining win that not only ended Kansas City’s unbeaten run but also proved the Reign can hang with the best.
