Portland Thorns x Angel City FC

Portland Thorns and Angel City Play to a Fierce 1-1 Draw in Electric Home Opener

The Rose City came alive on March 21st as the Portland Thorns opened their 2025 home campaign with a high-energy 1-1 draw against Angel City FC at a buzzing Providence Park.

Angel City wasted no time setting the tone—Kennedy Fuller stunned the home crowd with a beauty of a goal in just the 9th minute, curling it home from the top of the box after a slick setup by Gisele Thompson. But the Thorns weren’t about to let their homecoming be spoiled.

With the crowd roaring behind them, Portland struck back in the 30th minute when Reilyn Turner made her mark, burying her first regular-season goal for the Thorns off a pinpoint corner from Olivia Moultrie. It was a textbook set piece—and a momentum-shifter.

From that point on, it was all Portland. The Thorns launched wave after wave of attack, dominating the second half with relentless pressure—31 entries into the final third and 17 touches inside Angel City’s box. But despite all the chances, the go-ahead goal just wouldn’t fall.

Angel City, to their credit, held firm under siege, managing only two shots on target after halftime but doing just enough to escape with a point.

The result keeps Portland undefeated at home against Angel City (4 wins, 2 draws), and while it’s not the full three points they wanted, the Thorns will take the momentum into their next clash with North Carolina.
